A HIDDEN GEM IN ANDALUSIA
Jerez de la Frontera, or just Jerez, is the capital of Andalusian horse culture and features the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art: a famed riding school with horse shows and a carriage museum, where you can watch the Andalusian horses dance at an equestrian ballet.
Jerez’s other cultural emblem is sherry (“jerez” or “xerez” in Spanish). It’s only in its countryside’s loose and chalky soil that the palomino grapes, from what Jerez is made of, can grow. If you want to taste different types of sherry in a traditional environment, go to Jerez’s
local bars, “Tabancos” and enjoy the city’s signature drink.
Jerez is also the city where flamenco singing began, and stately home of the Andalusian Center of Flamenco, committed to the investigation, recovery, and collection of flamenco-related historical documents. It also has a collection of flamenco artifacts, musical instruments, costumes, posters, sheet music, and postcards.
In Jerez de la Frontera you can visit Tio Pepe´s wineries and cellars, and next to Jerez is the town of Puerto de Santa Maria, where you can visit Osborne wine yards, wineries and cellars.
